What is Madhubani Art?

Madhubani Handicrafts brings you the finest in authentic, original and traditional hand painted Madhubani art from the tribal villages of the Bihar plane of North East India.

Each painting is painstakingly handcrafted by the local artists of the region on natural recycled cotton paper with bamboo sticks, using natural colours, dyes and pigments that are sourced from purely organic herbs and spices, crops, stones, rocks, minerals and even cow dung! Some of the items are also crafted using traditional paint on sale acrylics and pigments.

Madhubani art traces its origins to the great Indian epic, the Ramayana, over 2500 years ago. History tells us that the renowned King Janaka ordered the people to decorate the town with the finest art form for the wedding of his daughter Sita to Lord Rama. This is how the Madhubani art form originated, and since then it has become a major part of the culture in this region.

Gradually, Madhubani art form came to capture the hearts of the many with its unique style and divine interpretations of the Hindu culture and its various God's and Goddesses.
