Exquisite Antique Solid Silver Pair of Georgian Sugar Tongs with lovely hammered pattern decoration.
From research I have done on these tongs I think that these tongs were made in London before the 1800s.
The tongs are quite long and have wide pinchers. They have initials engraved at the end.
On the inside of the tongs there are old style Hall marks including the lion and George head.
The piece also includes the mark 'WS' (stamped twice possibly by mistake) which is a mark representing the silversmith who made the tongs.
The tongs measures approximately 14 cm in length, whilst the distance in between the nips at the end is 5.3 cm at its widest point. The tongs weigh approximately 27 grams.
The tongs are in good but used condition with some light scratching due to it being over 200 years old!
This sterling silver pair of sugar tongs displays beautifully and would make a wonderful gift or addition to a collection of Georgian silver. A lovely and functional piece.
