A late 19th century French gilded brass trinket box, green velvet lined. Dating from the late 1800's this small brass trinket box has a printed image of a young woman on the lid (added later), beneath glass.
The lid is decorated with beautifully detailed swags of flowers and bows. The outside of the base is decorated with a repeating embossed pattern of stylised leaves.
The rich green velvet interior is intact, and the box is in good condition although the picture glass has suffered a small shell chip (shown in close-up photo). The gilding to the brass shows some wear around the edges and on the lid, to be expected on a used item of this age. The lid and base remain perfectly round, allowing the lid to be removed and replaced easily but nice and snug. The picture in the lid of the box is not original, although it has been there for on sale some time - it quite possibly replaced a Limoges enamel.
