The Father, the Protector of the Child. The father is the second person who influences the child, second only to the mother. He is the protector. Native fathers often think that being a good father is being available and actively engaged with not just their own children but also serving as a role model to other children in the community. It is important to lead by example. The Cheyenne say that “if you want to know how a person really is, take a look at their children.”
All of the spirit dolls stand on a piece of slate that came from a home built in 1840. All of my spirit dolls are made with a bit of my heart and soul. I bring them to life from the very beginning until I have finished the final sculpture. I start with making the head and from there I figure out what qualities they possess. Every single part of the on sale spirit doll is deliberately made and chosen. The spirit dolls often take a year or more to finish. I do other projects in between. But, always the process of finishing is in my mind, heart and soul. I hope you like and enjoy.
