On sale Mid Century Cool David Stewart Lion's Valley CERAMIC LION FACE Dish / Very Good Condition / 6-1/4" x 1-1/4" / Rare 60s Fab Collectible Find!
Who doesn't love a Happy Lion Face? And one designed by iconic MCM artisan, David Stewart, makes this Happy Lion even more lovable!
Stewart, a prolific potter in the San Diego area of California from the early 50s through the mid-70s, originally sold his art (out of his old van) directly to store merchants, traveling extensively up and down the coast. He eventually gained enough prominence to open his own studio (Lion's Valley Pottery) and sold his creations directly to his customers for many years. His iconic pieces are very popular today and are highly sought after and highly collectible.
This fabulous (and iconically styled) off-white and light brown matte glazed Ceramic Dish, with those textured, raised perky Lion Ears, curious Lion Eyes and wonderfully playful Lion Whiskers, is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs. It measures 6-1/4" in diameter and 1-1/4" tall. This cooler than cool Dish is very clean and has obviously been well-loved and well-cared for. I would venture to say that this fabulous Fat Cat has been used only for display.
Perfect for display on a coffee table, in a bookcase or on your mantlepiece, but can also be used as stash all for keys, loose change (whatever!) in your entryway - or as a perfect place to store jewelry and trinkets on your dresser. This Ceramic King of the Jungle is sure to please no matter how you choose to use it!
