ABOUT BLACK OBSIDIAN:

Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass that is formed above the Earth's surface.

Pure obsidian is usually dark in appearance, which iron and magnesium typically give the obsidian a dark brown to black color. The color varies depending on the presence of impurities.

Obsidian may contain patterns of gas bubbles remaining from the lava flow, aligned along layers created as the molten rock was flowing before being cooled.

In the United States, you won't find obsidian east of the Mississippi River where there isn't any volcanic activity.

Obsidian vs Onyx:

Obsidian is volcanic glass which may contain tiny gas bubbles, is glossy/glassy and weighs less than Onyx.

Onyx has a crystal molecular structure which allows it to have white, grey or black bands within the stone. It weighs more and has a duller finish than Obsidian.
