***Encaustic paintings are made with bees wax, damar resin(a natural tree sap the acts as a hardening agent), and oil paint. Many pieces are created in layers, fusing each layer with heat. Encaustic painting on sale has a long history, dating back to the 5th century B.C.. The word encaustic means to burn in, which refers to the process of fusing paint. Beeswax is impervious to moisture, it will not deteriorate or darken. Encaustic paintings do not have to be varnished, or protected by glass, however they must be treated with care and protected from extreme temperature changes.
