Vintage voting box, all original nice condition, complete with black and white marbles. Possibly from Free Masons, Elks Club or other secret society. These voting boxes would be used for a secret vote by fraternal orders and secret societies. This is where the term "Black Balled" originated, as a black ball would mean a "no" vote. Many times a potential new member would on sale have to go through this voting system to be accepted into the order. White marbles would be a "yes" vote, but a black marble would mean "no", denying access to the order.
