This Maurer Original design from 1965 is illusion netting appliqués with exquisite lace, pearled and crystaled, over taffeta. Ivory in color. In great condition. Veve Maurer was a premier wedding and special occasion garment designer primarily in the 1950's. She continued until her retirement in 1967. This is a late piece for her. It has straight, fitted sleeves of organza over taffeta with a 6 button fabric button closure (they are pointed to fit onto the hand, as was the fashion of the time). This gown most likely had a train (Watteau) that connected at the shoulders. It would be ease enough to create a replacement, if desired. Also of note, the zipper has been replaced at some time, as it is a modern nylon zipper and would have originally been a metal one. Truly a remarkable find!
