Containing Joseph Roper's sermon delivered in the Cathedral of St. Paul on December 9th, in occasion of the anniversary meeting of the Sons of the Clergy, a foundation established in 1655 in response to the distress of the large number of clergymen who were dispossessed of their livings under the regime of Oliver Cromwell.It developed into a charity for clerical families and nowadays is known as the 'Clergy Support Group.' With a drop-head title on page 25 'An Abstract of the Charter granted by his late Majesty King Charles II for erecting a Corporation for Relief of Poor Widows and Children of Clergymen' dated 1678, year of the on sale first meeting of the charity.
