The Minolta Riva 100AF is a snapshot camera. It was introduced by Minolta in the 90s. It is one of the simpler models from the Japanese company. The range of functions is reduced to the most necessary. In return, it is easy to use even for beginners without instructions.
The 35mm photo camera comes with a fixed focal length lens. The lens is called “Minolta Japan All Glass Lens f=34mm”. The focal length is 34mm. The largest aperture is f/4. Focusing is facilitated by a built-in autofocus. However, this only selects between two focus stages. The closest focusing distance is 130 cm.
For taking pictures, the camera has a light meter. It was designed for films with a sensitivity of ISO 100 to ISO 400. The camera technology reads the DX code of the on sale film cartridge and sets the exposure meter accordingly. If this code is not available, the camera selects ISO 100.
The camera has an automatic exposure control. The photographer cannot select the aperture and exposure time. In low light conditions, the built-in flash can be used. This comes with an automatic for red-eye reduction. Additionally, there is the option to turn the flash off. A forced flash, for example for backlight shots, is also available. The range of use with a normal ISO 100 film of the flash goes from 1.3 meters to 4 meters.
The camera can be triggered by the self-timer if desired. The switch for this is located on the front. A hand strap can be attached to the side of the camera. According to the user manual, the housing without films weighs 190 grams. The dimensions are 12.6 x 7 x 4.7 meters. The camera requires two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon). There is no charge level indicator.
