English Costume, Dion Clayton Calthrop, 1907-1st Edition, published by A & C Black, London, with original cloth covers. 463 pages with 70 colour plates protected by captioned tissue guards. Visuals, drawings and painted fashion plates in the book are shown amid the text, and the book covers both male and female dress history of over 700 years spanning the era 1066-1830, with a history of English fashion from William Ist through George IV. The book covers everything of the times, from hats to garments and even hairstyles, with drawings also included from Wenceslaus Hollar (13 July 1607 – 25 March 1677) a Bohemian etcher, as costume references.
The covers slightly faded and the first tissue guard is toned and nearly detached. And there is minimal but sporadic spotting on the first and last few pages to an otherwise clean copy, as well as toned tissue guards. A few pages have old liquid marks in upper margins and pages 63 and 64 are detached. Otherwise the binding is secure and the contents complete. A must have reference book for anyone studying the history of fashion through the ages with amazing vivid colour plates and an educating read.
