Lapis Lazuli is a metamorphic rock which is a combination of minerals, including calcite, pyrite, diopside and others but must always contain lazurite. The source of the finest lapis lazuli gemstones is Afghanistan.
Other deposits are located in Chile and Russia and minor sources are Angola, Canada, Colorado (US), and Pakistan.
