Carved stone face on sale signed J R Larate

This is an interesting little piece that came from a local estate. It is carved (I believe) stone on a woman's face. There is a hole at the back intended for a on sale metal stand though I don't have the stand.

The head is about 3 by 2.75 inches and it is signed J.R. Larate on the back.
