Henry William Chandler Lithograph Print in Antique Tramp Art Frame with on sale original thick glass, Winter Scene with Bridge and Bare Birch Trees
A beautiful lithographic print of a snowy winter scene done by the famed early American Artist, Henry William Chandler. His signature can be seen on the lower left corner (see Photo #3).
Chandler was famous for creating natural outdoor scenes using pastel chalks. This piece is light and ethereal in its feel with soft white, silver and blue colors against the brown bare trees. His work was very popular around the turn of the 20th century and they are still collected. What I on sale love about this picture is that it transports me to a place that is peaceful and calm and quiet. It's magical!
The print is in its original Tramp Art Frame with carved wooden sides and leaves on each corner. The natural stained wood was lightly brushed with gold paint which gives it a warm glow. I touched up the inner fillet with gold metallic paint to help brighten it all a bit.
Some of the ornamental leaves on the corners had tips that were broken off (check out pics of corners). It's not too noticeable until closely inspected. Also, some "foxing" or an age spot is in the print which is very common in older prints. You can see it on the right side (photo #2).
The glass is original, thick with a few tiny bubbles.
I took it all apart and cleaned the glass and cut a green-gray mat to compliment the picture.
