Louis-Antoine Fauvelet de Bourrienne, (born July 9, 1769, Sens, Fr.—died Feb. 7, 1834, Caen) was a French diplomat and one-time secretary to Napoleon Bonaparte. They met at the Military Academy at Brienne in Champagne when eight years old. The memoirs are based on years of intimate friendship and professional association. In this position, the largest part of all the official and private correspondence of the time passed through his hands. The 3 volumes cover from Napoleon's birth and parentage, rise to power, war campaigns, marriage and divorce from Josephine, his death and will. Many pictures throughout.
