on sale I was thrilled to take the fabled Summer Etching Workshop at Crown Point Press in San Francisco a few years ago. My aim was to try new materials and explore new subjects. The sky and water in this seascape were etched with nitric acid spit bite. Nitric acid is a rewarding and unpredictable etchant to use, much stronger than the ferric chloride I am used to. The scene is from a sketch I made on Santa Cruz Island's western end, at Christy Beach.
