THE INSIGHT OF EDNA LEWIS IN 200 WONDERFUL TASTING AMERICAN DISHES, OLD FASHIONED COUNTRY RECIPES AND NEW IDEAS. IN PURSUIT on sale OF FLAVOR, BY EDNA LEWIS. FIRST EDITION, 1988

Edna Lewis, the granddaughter of a former slave, was a talented African American chef and author best known for her cookbooks on traditional American Southern cuisine. This book, In Pursuit of Flavor, is the culmination of years cooking in the kitchen using recipes hundreds of years old. In this book are 200 old fashioned country recipes that define Edna Lewis and Virginia cooking throughout its long history. Edna Lewis and her cookbooks went on to revive a nearly forgotten era of refined Southern cooking while offering a glimpse into black American farm life of the early 20th century. Edna went on to win the Lifetime Achievement Award by The International Association of Culinary Professionals and the first ever James Beard Living Legend Award among many other awards and honors. Also includes illustrations by Louisa Jones Waller. An attractive first edition in about fine condition.
