Vintage early 80's HOPI CHASING Star/METEOR Hopi Kachina on sale - Signed

Vintage late 80's Hopi CHASING STAR/METEOR Kachina -signed /This piece was purchased in Flagstaff AZ - in the summer of 84.

CHASING STAR KACHINA/METEOR KACHINA
This is a rather unique version of the “SHOOTING or CHASING STAR Kachina) as it represents a Shooting Star kachina with its child. This kachina is from 1984 and measures 12” overall height (larger kachina measures 10” / Smaller child kachina measures 3” overall on sale sitting height). Both adult and child kachinas are dressed in traditional Puebloan/Hopi styled leather skirting with traditional designs painted on them. The child kachina is firmly attached to the shoulders of the adult Kachina. The piece is signed on the bottom “Chasing Star” 84' and there are the initials “J B” written in pencil. This Kachina represents the spirit of the stars and planets. Also known as the planet or meteor Kachina, legend says that years ago aliens would come to visit the Indian Puebloan people and give them advice on hunting and crop propagation.

DETAILS
This kachina stands approx. 12 inches tall / is 4" wide and is about 2" deep - perfect size to fit on the average display shelf. On the bottom of his natural wood slab base there are initials as well as what appears to be a date of 1984.
