1960s Black and White Op Art Knit Dress in a SIze 14 1/2 Bust 34.. Made in the USA of acetate and nylon, date of manufacture no given. No company label; RN# illegible. Based upon the union tag and lack of care instruction, I am placing this dress in the mid 1960s.
An authentic 1960s Op Art dress with princess seams and dropped waist in very good vintage condition! Absolutely amazing!
The knit fabric is in very good condition but has very little stretch. I found 4 tiny holes where a thread had given way: 2 near the breast on the right front and 2 near the armhole seam just above the princess seam on the right back. They can easily be caught up with a needle and thread, stabilized from the wrong side or ignored. One seam in particular is a tiny bit stressed, right front princess seam. Remember, this knit has a good drape but not a stretch. No underarm discoloration shows. No worn or thin spots and no patching. Please note that the buckle's fabric could also use a stitch or two.
The grey spot showing at the bottom of the dress is the mannequin's leg. She also doesn't always stand straight, causing a garment to look distorted.

When purchasing a vintage garment, follow the measurements not the size. Size specifications have changed over the years and a vintage garment may have been altered to fit the original owner. Also, remember to leave ease between your personal measurements and the garment's. For example, a top that is 40' in the bust area will not fit a 40” bust…it will be tight. A 42” top will fit better.
Also a vintage garment was designed and cut to follow the body silhouette of its time period. For the best fit (depending upon the garment) undergarments from the same time period are suggested.
When purchasing a vintage garment please remember that it is old. I may have missed a fade or a flaw. I may have misjudged the year. I am happy to be corrected.
All garments are vintage items and sold…AS IS. I maintain a non-smoking, pet-free studio, but I have no control over where the items I offer at auction were previously. I attempt to represent my goods as honestly as possible, but sometimes something will get by. If you have any doubts about an item, e-mail me BEFORE YOU PURCHASE!
