Bristol glass and Opaline glass are often used to describe the same piece--except one is French (Opaline) and the other is English (Bristol). I am not entirely sure which this is, but because it is large, heavy and cased glass, I am leaning to Bristol. The hand painting on the front of the vase is very nicely done with details such as thorns on the rose, pretty colored leaves and even a wonderful dragonfly. The tips of a few of the rose petals might be missing a speck of paint--or it might be dirt (see the 9th photo). I didn't want to clean too harshly. Most of the gold has worn off from the top of the vase and there are a very few, very small fleabites around the opening. The price has been adjusted to reflect condition. This vase measures approximately 8 1/2 inches high, 4 inches in diameter at the opening, 7 on sale 1/2 inches at the widest point and 4 3/4 inches in diameter at the base. There are no cracks or repairs. This vase is absolutely gorgeous with a bouquet of Spring Irises. Pink does make a statement.
