VICTORIAN PINCE NEZ SPECTACLES with ORIGINAL CASE - MINT CONDITION Eyeglasses - Original Gold Ear Wire from C. S. Friedman, Optometrist in Burlington, Iowa: LATE 1800's

I stayed up late to list these because I on sale couldn't wait to show everyone what I found on the Internet! Check out my photos and you will see a postcard type advertisement for the EXACT OPTOMETRIST who made these Spectacles! The advertisement was already sold or I certainly would have purchased it to include with this listing. It was said to be from 1900. I made a copy of the listing and it is included with the Spectacles.

"Pince Nez" is French and means a style of glasses, popular in the 19th century. They were supported on the face without earpieces, by pinching the bridge of the nose. The name comes from French pincer, "to pinch", and nez, "nose".

These Pince Nez Spectables are in WONDERFUL if not MINT condition. There are no scratches on the glass. The fancy and intricate nose piece is perfect and the fine gold chain and ear wire are perfect. The inside of the case, with its purple velvet lining, is in good condition. The owner must not have used the glasses at all…perhaps because the prescription seems to be very minor.

Yes, the case is poor, as you can see. It still opens and shuts with the typical eyeglass case "snap" but the front and back are rough. The gold embossed advertising is actually on what is the back of the case. There is a split in the leather but the lettering is still in great condition which is remarkable.

The case measures 4 1/4 inches X 1 7/8 inches.

The Spectacles are 3 3/4 inches measured from the outside of each lens. The fine gold chain is 4 inches long. There is no KT marking for the gold on either the chain, the ear piece or the nose piece. As I said, the Spectacles could be considered to be in MINT condition!

Price is just $85.00. Shipping with insurance is $15.00.

I gladly refund any shipping charges that exceed the postage and money spent on boxes and packing materials. Purchases will be shipped within 3 working days. Of course, I will combine orders to create larger refunds so:
