This modernist ring highlights an enormous Amethyst (21x18mm) which has been faceted to perfection. The Amethyst is a beautiful rich plum colored purple (AA Color). This brilliant stone is supported by an abstract almost organic structure which extends above the finger to support the stone. The structure has a wood grain texture which enhances the organic feel of the ring.

The Amethyst is prong set with petite Rhodolite Garnets and this design element can also be found gracing the shank of the ring. These petite stones are accented with gold vermeil. The vermeil brings out the subtle reds in these lovely stones. It is a most unexpected higher end detail.

This ring was clearly artisan crafted, beautifully composed and constructed. It is a solid weighty piece. It is also in outstanding vintage condition with no surface wear to the stone. It is simply hallmarked 925 so we will never know who the talented artisan was that crafted this gorgeous design. The height of the ring is .60” and the size, 8.5. It is in pristine vintage condition.

Thoughts:

Some History of Amethyst:
Amethyst, due to its deep purple color, is associated with Bacchus, the Greek god of wine. Large drinking vessels used for water and wine were often carved from this stone. Roman matrons believed that wearing Amethyst would help to guarantee fidelity. Cleopatra is said to have worn a ring made of Amethyst engraved with the image of Maend, a Persian god, who was considered a source of enlightenment and love.
Amethyst is one of the twelve gemstones that lined the walls of heaven in Revelations. In the Roman Catholic church, the pure color of Amethyst is associated with the wine transfigured to Christ's blood in the sacrament of Mass. Amethyst has been a signature gemstone for bishops and is often incorporated into many of their ceremonial rings.
