This lighter set is the kind of set to be used if you want to be the most accommodating host. A lighter and ashtray, both with bakelite handles, for a host or butler to walk around the party, offering a light to anyone who needs, or a small ashtray to tap their cigarette or cigar, and dispose them both when they are finished. The lighter features an ingenious semi-automatic design. At the push of a button or small lever, the lighter pops open with a shower of sparks, lighting the wick. The lighter stays lit until blown out, or the snuffer cap is pushed back down and latched close, ready for it's next use.
The lighter is in good working order. It has a strong spark, and the wick appears to be the original wick, unused since it was originally made in the 1940s. The ashtray has a small crack down the side, running to one of the legs, but feels solid and sturdy. There is some damage to the brass laquer finish, but it is in overall good condition for a 75 year old lighter. Originally based in Brooklyn, ASR or American Safety Razor is best known for its shaving-related products and only produced lighters for about ten years. The earliest patent date for the semi-automatic mechanism design used for all ASR lighters was applied for on December 19, 1945.
By buying a vintage lighter, you are committing to lowering your carbon footprint. Though they may take more maintenance than a modern disposable lighter, these lighters were meant to be used for a lifetime. They can be refilled with flint and lighter fluid time and time again, the wick and wadding can be replaced when necessary, and are eternally fixable. Buy a reusable lighter, and help cut down on the excess of plastic waste.
Lighter will ship with a flint installed, just remove the insert, add fuel under the felt pad, and it's ready to light. Due to international shipping law, I am unable to include a flint with any orders outside of the US. No returns or refunds, vintage items are sold as-is. If you have any trouble with the lighter please contact me and I can help you sort it out. Quarter for scale, not included.
Vintage lighters can be prone to failure. Use only at your own risk. Collecting lighters is a fun hobby, but any type of lighter or firestarter comes with inherent risks. I am not liable for any damages caused by my products. I do not modify lighters in any way, they function as designed by the on sale original manufacturer. Not for sale to anybody under 18. Regardless of function, lighters are sold as collectors items only.
