The driftwood itself, called teredo wood, has an interesting story. The beautiful carvings were actually made by a hermaphroditic species of mollusk called turu, that burrow into the wood and leave this mark behind. In many cultures, shamans embody both genders. I found the driftwood along the banks of the Hudson River, and creating the Shaman just felt right.
Standing about 2 1/2" tall, it is carved from on sale driftwood and sculpted from clay.
You can also take the piece out of the beautifully designed tin and hold it.
