Because the grain is twisted and interlocked, burl wood is extremely dense and resistant to splitting. Burl is highly valued for its durability and uniqueness.
Blade is Damascus Steel. This material is famed and recognizable because of the watery or wavy light and dark pattern of the metal. Aside from being beautiful, Damascus Steel is valued because it on sale maintains a keen edge, but is hard and flexible. This type of steel is still crafted with the same traditions as were followed 2,000 years ago. A gorgeous blade.
