Pichwai refers to the temple hanging that depicts mythological stories of Nathdwara's resident deity, Shrinathji, a manifestation of Krishna .The painting is traditionally made on a specially starched cloth, with colors derived from stones and minerals, and also gold, which gives a pichwai its rich look.
Pichwai is a traditional style of painting from Rajasthan. The word Pichwai stands for hanging at the back (Sanskrit word "Pichh" means back and "wais" means hanging). Pichhwai paintings are big sized paintings done on cotton cloth using natural colors and are hung behind the idol of Lord Shrinath Ji to depict his leelas.
