Sir Luigi Cattelan was knighted in 2005 by the Italian government in recognition for all he accomplished in the Murano bead industry.  A native born Italian he is descended from a family of master craftsmen dating back to the 15th century.  For 20 years he was the director of production at The Societa' Veneziana Conterie, which was founded in 1893 and closed in 1992.  Due to this closure caused by inexpensive foreign competition he started working for himself and reintroduced the chevron bead back into the great bead markets of Italy, the U.S. and Africa.  He used compositions of glass from the S.V.C. as well as from his grand and great grandfathers plus old and rare chevron cane found in warehouses and factories on the island of Murano.

These beads will make lovely additions to any bead collection or can be worn in your most unique jewelry creations.

For the last 20 - 25 years we have been collecting spectacular hand crafted lamp work beads.  His collection includes chevrons and other intricately designed beads plus others that include face & other pictorial murrine (canes).  They were purchased directly from the artisans and some include signatures and dates.  These beads have never been used in jewelry or worn so the approx. ages will be indicated.
