Raku Fish - Fun on sale - Multi-colored - Striped - Raku - 4" x 3" x 6" - Goneaway Pottery

I make these fish because they make me giggle. I hope they find a way into your heart too. Not sure if they're surprised, aghast, or singing, but they make me smile.

This fish is glazed in a multi-colored, iridescent glaze, and fired using a raku process. This is a colorful fish, but a bit more subtle than some others.

When creating raku pieces, they are fired to ~1825F and pulled from the kiln while they are still glowing red. They are placed into an ash can with combustibles such as newspaper or leaves, and closed tightly to reduce the oxygen in the can. The absence of oxygen during cooling causes the metallic colors to come out in the glazes. Due to the nature of the raku process, these pieces are on sale not food safe. They will not hold water, or survive for long outdoors. But they sure are fun on a shelf where you can see them every day.
