Product code: LIFE Magazine, “Russia’s Generals”, but US Army & Navy WWII Warplanes are Featured in a Long Photo-Filled on sale Article!

With a Russian General featured on the cover, this July 31, 1944 issue of LIFE Magazine has some truly fascinating articles and a long spread featuring great photos and descriptions of 12 US Army warplanes and 9 US Navy warplanes. And they are beautiful!
Ruling Germany since 1933, Adolph Hitler initiated World War II when on September 1, 1939 he ordered his forces to invade Poland, thinking that Germany lost too much land with the Versailles Treaty at the end of WW1. He also signed a non-aggression treaty with the USSR. Great Britain and France soon joined together to declare war on Germany.
Hitler later broke his treaty with the Soviets, and instead invaded the USSR to try to gain their lands and valuable oil and mineral resources for his war effort, and to further his plans for world domination.
Russia asked America for help and was refused, but after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and the military air fields in Hawaii, America declared war on Japan and Germany, and joined the Allies — Great on sale Britain, France, and Russia — against Hitler and the Nazis.
THIS issue of LIFE Magazine is from July 31, 1944 — about a year before WWII ended on September 2, 1945 — and features these articles:
• “Russia's Generals”
• “Roosevelt Nominated
For Term IV”
• “Infantile Paralysis” — Polio
• “U.S. Warplanes”
• “Linda Darnell” (Actress)
• “Spider Man” (Researcher)
• “The Rangers” (Military)
• “John P. Marquand” (Author)
• “The Top of the Mark” — the
famous bar in the
Mark Hopkins Hotel, SF.
And ALL of them are truly fascinating!
The magazine is large-format, measuring 10-1/2" by 13-1/2", has about 110 pages,
and is in really very wonderful condition when you consider
it is close to eighty years old!
The most interesting article in this vintage magazine, to me, however, is the long article with many wonderful descriptions of the capabilities of U.S. Army and Navy warplanes! The evolution of the various features of 21 airplanes are detailed, and the color photos are really great enough to frame!
There is a small tear, taped, at the very bottom of the front cover, a mailing label in pale blue (very light) on the lower right corner of the back cover, and 2 of the 8-page ‘signatures' in the center have yellowed — perhaps due to a different type of paper used at printing time.
This very rare, fact-filled, riveting issue is truly a beautiful, highly-collectible specimen!
The amazing photos, articles and historical content is what this issue is all about and you will surely be entranced!
You will probably also get
a kick out of seeing the advertising of the 1940's too!
This is SO interesting!
