Established in 1919 as the Knickerbocker Knitting Co. by the Feinbloom brothers in Rochester, NY and changed name to Champion Knitwear around 1923. During its time in Rochester, Champion was credited with developing innovative apparel like the hoodie, reversible shirts, the sports bra, "breathable" mesh clothing, and pioneered technology of imprinting garments with names, numbers, insignia to customer specs. Signed agreements with Michigan Wolverines to produce uniforms soon after 1923 name change and starting producing training apparel for US Military Academy in 1930s. Other on sale notable commissions include uniforms for the 1992 Dream Team and Notre Dame football uniforms for 50 years (ending in 2001).
