Large Red Almandine Garnets in on sale Satiny Green Phyllite and Chlorite Schist - Little Pine Garnet Mine, North Carolina, USA
This is a satiny piece of green and fairly soft chlorite schist in which porphyroblasts of red almandine garnets are embedded. This piece has numerous garnets, the largest measuring up to 1.3 inches. From our recent mineral finding expedition to North Carolina, this piece was found in a creek running through the area directly below the Little Pine Garnet Mine adit in Marshall, Madison County, North Carolina. The adit extends into a hill about forty yards, and was only active for two years, in 1904-1905. For a fee, you can dig and search the tailings on the hillside and the creek, in which can be found solitary garnets, garnets in schist, and quartz. Tailings on sloping hill and crew pictured on site.
