The meaning of Shiva Nataraja:
The cosmic dance of Shiva Nataraja as the king (raja) of dance (nata) is understood as a symbol of the constantly moving universe.
The presentation:
Nataraja is usually surrounded by a flame aura, which provides protection from all disturbing external influences,
but it also stands for the fire of the destruction of the old, which creates space for the new and symbolizes the eternal cycle of existence.
In his right hand he holds a small drum, symbol of the rhythm of creation.
His mantra is Aum, the original sound from which the entire creation emerged.
With his second right hand, Shiva holds a torch or flame as a symbolism of destruction and renewal.
The downward left arm symbolizes compelling humility.
