66 Remnants, one-of-a-kind hand crafted earrings from glass remnants on sale collected along old Route 66
66 Remnants are one-of-a-kind earrings, hand crafted from the glass remnants I collected from long-gone roadside attractions along old Route 66 more than two decades ago.
Before the high-speed interstate freeways, Route 66, the Mother Road of America from Chicago to Los Angeles, epitomized the great journey west for adventure and dreams. Along this two-lane ribbon of asphalt were countless roadside attractions: mom-and-pop stores, cafes, motels, drive-in movie theaters, and curio shops.
Most are gone or in ruins and before the internet and map-search software the only way to find these roadside attractions were from hand-drawn or vintage maps and postcards. With these guides, I travelled the Mother Road collecting multi-colored bottles, shards of glass from windows, and electrical insulators - remnants of on sale dreams at abandoned buildings marked by rusted neon signs.
The glass was sorted, cleaned, cut and fashioned into one-of-a-kind earrings – beautiful memories from the beautiful journey of adventure and dreams we all share.
